Korina Vougiouka is a graduate of the soloist departments of the Hochschule für Musik Köln (class of H. Käppel) and the Musik-Akademie Basel (class of O. Ghiglia), supported by scholarships from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. She also holds a PhD from the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, with a dissertation focusing on the relationship between the guitar and the wider musical world in the early 19th century, as reflected in guitar works related to opera.
She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous countries, collaborated with Greek and international orchestras, and recorded both solo and ensemble CDs. She has curated a number of performances combining literary texts with music (concept, text editing, and transcriptions), including:
- Our Hands Are Our Heart, based on Shakespearean heroines, in collaboration with mezzo-soprano Th. Baka and soprano M. Milolidaki
- Pan Ho Megas Tethnike, in collaboration with soprano Tz. Souglakou
- 800 B.C., with flutist D. Koundouras, soprano E. Bilini-Moraiti, and actress A. Tombrou
- The Bees: The Wonderful Spectacle of the Microcosm and Its Noble Leaders (Virgil’s *Georgics, Book IV), presented within the Greek Ministry of Culture program “All of Greece, One Culture.
She served as Artistic Director of the G.A. Papaioannou Festival (2007, 2008, 2015, 2016), the E.M.M.A. Soundtrack Festival (Onassis Stegi, 2012), and has been Artistic Director of the “Arion” International Guitar Festival of Molyvos, Lesvos, since 2012. She is Assistant Professor of Guitar at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University.
